Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer at Prevail. Prevail couldn’t fulfill its mission without the support of over 80 volunteers working in a variety of capacities. If you have a few hours or longer, there are opportunities to be involved.
Co-Facilitator for Closed DV Group - This individual works directly with the Prevail staff member to facilitate the curriculum of the group. Tasks: provides emotional support, feedback to the clients, assists with individual activities, and can lead the group in the absence of the Prevail staff member. They have a working knowledge of the group curriculum. Additionally, this individual demonstrates healthy, appropriate boundaries and has an understanding of domestic violence and its effects. They also commit to attending group as consistently as possible unless there is a family emergency or illness. Preferred background: Social work, sociology, women’s studies, or related field.
Police Report Program Assistant - This individual works under supervision of a Prevail staff member to complete follow-up on police reports from various law enforcement agencies in Hamilton County. These police reports often serve as a first point of contact between Prevail and our clients. Tasks: Reading and organizing police reports, making follow-up calls, sending follow-up correspondence, and documenting all contacts and services provided. Working knowledge of Prevail’s mission and services, client resources for the purposes of making referrals. Additionally, this individual demonstrates healthy, appropriate boundaries with people who have been victims of crime. They also commit to a minimum of two to three hours twice a week and work to attend as consistently as possible unless there is a family emergency or illness. Ideal candidate will be motivated and willing to take guidance from Prevail staff, yet work without direction most of the time. Must respect and maintain confidentiality. Detail oriented, comfortable making phone calls to people who have been victimized, compassionate, and respectful. Understanding of administrative tasks’ importance in our ability to serve clients and carry out our mission. Preferred background in social work, sociology, women’s studies, or related field.
Co-facilitator for Children’s Sexual Abuse Group - This individual works in direct correlation with the Prevail staff member to facilitate the curriculum of the group. Tasks: provides emotional support, feedback to the clients, assists with individual activities, and can lead the group in the absence of the Prevail staff member. They have a working knowledge of the group curriculum. Additionally, this individual demonstrates healthy, appropriate boundaries with children and has an understanding of sexual abuse and its effects of children and their families. They also commit to attending all twelve weeks of the group unless there is a family emergency or illness.
Assistant for Children’s Sexual Abuse Group - This individual works under the direct supervision of the Prevail staff member facilitating the curriculum of the group. Tasks: sets up the room, files the children’s work, takes kids to the bathroom if necessary, answers the door if no other volunteer is assigned, provides emotional support, may assist children in individual activities, and assists the Prevail staff member with any other tasks. Additionally, this individual demonstrates healthy, appropriate boundaries with children and has an understanding of sexual abuse and its effects of children and their families. They also commit to attending all twelve weeks of the group unless there is a family emergency or illness.
Co-facilitator for Children’s Domestic Violence Support Group - This individual works in direct correlation with the Prevail staff member to facilitate the curriculum of the group. Tasks: provides emotional support, feedback to the clients, assists with individual activities, and can lead the group in the absence of the Prevail staff member. They have a working knowledge of the group curriculum. Additionally, this individual demonstrates healthy, appropriate boundaries with children and has an understanding of domestic violence and its effects of children and their families. They also commit to attending group as consistently as possible unless there is a family emergency or illness.
Assistant for Children’s Sexual Abuse Group - This individual works under the direct supervision of the Prevail staff member facilitating the curriculum of the group. Tasks: sets up the room, files the children’s work, takes kids to the bathroom if necessary, answers the door if no other volunteer is assigned, provides emotional support, may assist children in individual activities, helps distribute snack, and assists the Prevail staff member with any other tasks. Additionally, this individual demonstrates healthy, appropriate boundaries with children and has an understanding of domestic violence and its effects of children and their families. They also commit to attending group as consistently as possible unless there is a family emergency or illness.
Case Manager Assistant - This individual works under the direct supervision of the Prevail staff member. Tasks: completing follow-up calls, police report follow-up calls, child advocacy center follow-ups, copying, managing case management list, working on writing group curriculum provided by the Prevail staff member, filing children’s work, and working on any other projects assigned by the Prevail staff member. Additionally, this individual demonstrates healthy, appropriate boundaries with families, who have been victims. They also commit to a minimum of two hours a week and work to attend as consistently as possible unless there is a family emergency or illness.
All Prevail volunteers receive a comprehensive orientation to the agency and specific training for their particular role. Additional training opportunities are also available to volunteers.
Volunteer Orientation is held on a regular basis so it’s never too late to become involved!
