About Us - History of Prevail

Prevail, Inc. embarked on its mission to serve victims of violent crime in Hamilton County in July 1986. In the almost 25 years since founding, programs and staff have come and gone but the core mission of serving victims of crime and abuse has never changed.

Over the years, Prevail has expanded its programming to meet the growing demand for services. Just one example is the number and types of support groups offered. In 1987, the first support group was started for victims of domestic violence. Today, twelve weekly groups are offered to meet the needs of adults, youth and teens.

Prevail was selected by the Indiana Department of Corrections to develop and implement a Victim Notification Program for Hamilton County. Since its inception in 1997, this program has assisted thousands of victims by providing information regarding offender release and criminal justice information in a timely fashion.

In 2001, Prevail was asked to expand services to young people by becoming part of the multidisciplinary team that interviews abused and neglected children at Chaucie’s Place in Carmel.

Most recently, in April 2009, Inspirations of Hamilton County merged with Prevail to allow us to offer employment services to clients. These women are either re-entering the workforce or seeking improved employment to allow them to live independently from their abuser.

These are just several examples of how Prevail has matured as an agency and adapted to changing needs in our community. Check out our Victim Services menu for more information on how we assist our neighbors in Hamilton County!
